Your endometrial lining can be difference between a successful and unsuccessful embryo transfer. Food can have a direct effect on the endometrial lining. I use many other tools to support womens lining leading up to transfer but food is the basis of any protocol.
1. Increase Healthy Fats for Hormonal Balance
Omega-3 fatty acids (found in oily fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts) help improve blood flow to the uterus and regulate estrogen levels, which is crucial for endometrial growth.
Studies show that a Mediterranean-style diet rich in healthy fats supports endometrial receptivity and pregnancy success.
2. Boost Nitric Oxide for Better Blood Flow
Nitric oxide improves uterine blood flow, which is essential for a thick, receptive endometrium.
Key foods: Beetroot, spinach, arugula, pomegranate, and dark chocolate have been shown to enhance circulation and endothelial function.
3. Support Estrogen Production with Phytoestrogens
Estrogen stimulates endometrial growth. Phytoestrogens in foods like soy, flaxseeds, sesame seeds, and lentils can help support estrogen levels naturally.
Research suggests moderate soy intake is beneficial for endometrial thickness in IVF patients.
4. Reduce Inflammation for a Healthier Uterine Environment
Chronic inflammation can impair endometrial development.
A diet rich in antioxidants (berries, turmeric, green tea, vitamin C from citrus, and vitamin E from nuts/seeds) can help create a more favorable uterine environment.
5. Optimize Iron and B Vitamins for Red Blood Cell Production
A well-oxygenated endometrium requires good circulation and healthy red blood cell formation.
Include iron-rich foods (red meat, spinach, lentils, pumpkin seeds) and B vitamins (eggs, leafy greens, whole grains) to support cell growth and repair.
6. Balance Blood Sugar to Prevent Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance can impair estrogen metabolism and endometrial development.
A low-glycemic diet, including fiber-rich foods (vegetables, legumes, and whole grains) and protein at each meal, helps stabilise insulin and support a healthy endometrial lining.
This time last year, one of my clients preparing for an embryo transfer, discovered her lining was'nt thickening at the right rate. Her clinic were concerned, they chose to monitor it but had no solutions. We were able to put a plan in place across a 5 day period to super charge her lining, achieving 10mm, a successful first round of IVF and a beautiful baby boy.
